You guys are doing a great job!! I look forward to the extra features :)

Just today I spent 2 hours tackling the word chain problem when I should've been working (oops). That was a good but hard one! :)

Keep up the good work!

Yeah, after a year (I posted this review last May) I'd be inclined to agree (I'll get around to editing it sometime ;))

Like you said, it has that initial WOW! factor, - something new to play with! ... but after a while, the annoyances creep in a little. In my experience, a similar feeling to the iPad disillusionment (I went from loving, to being very bored of the iPad whilst standing in the Apple store for 30 mins).

I think for newbies it's pretty nice without much hassle (I believe it's similar to Ubuntu's new Unity UI, although haven't actually tried that) - but not so sure for a more competent distro like Arch.

Never been a big KDE fan myself, a bit too Windozey in my past experience (although again, haven't used it for about 2 years). In the meantime I've ditched gnome-shell / gnome-panel, and loving my minimal setup of gnome-do with stalonetray - it's what Arch is all about! ;) The panels / utils stay out of my way until I need them - beautiful!

Been playing with Gnome3 for a few hours now since it hit the Arch testing repo. Runs pretty well overall except an occasional 1 second lag when entering Applications view but other than that, pretty fucking fast. Seems stable enough and I'm getting nice fast bootups on this setup.
I like it but I hate it!
I can tell I would really despise it if it was all I used for more than 3 or 4 hours straight. It's cool until the novelty wears off and then it's unbearably boring and limited. Even just changing themes is ridiculously convoluted (as well as adding startup programs.)
I just recently started gravitating toward KDE since their 4.5.x releases and this certainly cinches it for me -- pure KDE from now on.
My take, in summary-- boring, brain-dead, featureless, limited. It's like having Lancelot take over your whole computer - it's like an app launcher with a kernel lol. It seems they are aiming at a sub-strata of users you simply won't find in the halls of Academia. Hope more is coming cause as it stands, in my opinion it pleasures farm animals. But if you always thought the default Gnome interface was too complicated for you (oh, brother) then here you go!
